Google appears to be implementing Pixel face unlock. Before the Pixel 6 Pro even debuted last year, we first learned about this. However, the gadget did not have such feature.

Google appears to be working on Pixel Face Unlock. After that, it was brought up numerous times, and the Pixel security hub even got a menu for Pixel face unlock. Though soon after, Google did take that screenshot down from the Security Hub listing, but it was too late; the feature had already been essentially confirmed to be in development.

Now, 9to5

Google claims to have learned that this feature is still functional. It’s rumored that Google is still working on it. It is also mentioned that the lack of a launch with the Pixel 6 Pro is due to accuracy and battery issues.

The source did identify a FACE UNLOCK BOOST modification that is unique to the Pixel 6 series. In essence, this means that for one second, the CPU performs at a higher level to allow face unlock to function.

The Pixel 4 and 4 XL did provide face unlock, as the majority of you are aware. Both phones had hardware designed for it. Google added infrared cameras, a dot projector, and a floodlight. Such hardware does not exist in the Pixel 6 series.

Google will implement the feature via the front-facing camera. Like many other OEMs, Google appears to want to execute the feature using the front-facing camera. The Soli radar was only available on the Pixel 4 and 4 XL because the Pixel 5 did not include that specific technology.

The Pixel 7 series is rapidly approaching, thus the firm might reserve the feature solely for those devices. Let’s see.
